Wildly successful bass believed to be English, altered and cut down. This bass was bought by Orin O’Brien in 1966 when she was hired by Lenard Bernstein for the NY Philharmonic. She purchased the instrument through Fred Zimmerman who was selling it for the widower of Natalie Clair Feldman who played in Cleveland during the war years and later went on to play assistant principle in Montreal and later appointed principle. Orin in the late 1970’s sold the bass to the principle bass of Kansas City Lou Newman who played his 40 year career on this instrument. This is a big time players bass!
A string of appraisals from Duane Rosengard, Lisa Gass and Sam Kolstein believing the bass to be of English origin. Four piece medium grained spruce top, two piece quarter sawn sycamore back and ribs with added outside linings.
Owner looking for a great home and a workable offer.
