François Jaques Barbé (Barbé Père)- Avallon, France 1835

$46,500.00

This is our newest complete restoration of an incredible French instrument.  It took six months to finish this almost 200 year old superior Barbé Père bass.  Every aspect of the bass was attended to including updating the neck geometry and standout.  Originally a three string bass, we completed a neck graft and full set up including new fingerboard and bridge to make it perfect for the most advanced modern standards.  Every old crack was cleaned out and rejoined and supported, new bass bar, bottom block, back braces, linings, edges and doubling.  We used the idea of tapering the back without a break from this maker many years ago and incorporated this into the basses we make in shop.  We were able to easily use our X brace system for amazing response from the back.

Very well flamed maple back and matching ribs, top quality workmanship.  The original golden brown varnish is amazingly intact.  The original tuners are in perfect shape and the added fourth tuner is an excellent vintage match.

This bass competes well with the best Italian basses for less than half of the price!
