William Gilkes- London, England 1874

A stunning bass by William Gilkes, London in 1874.  A very refined example at the hight of his craft close to the end of his life.  This bass is a 3/4 size with slightly deeper ribs and extremely accessible shoulders.  This bass has incredible cushion and power appropriate for the best orchestras on earth.  It also has the rare capability to also be a top notch solo instrument.  Rarely does a bass accomplish both at such a high level.  I can’t imagine how much fun it would be to have this bass for an entire career!

The bass has beautifully flamed wood throughout.  The entire bass including the tuners are original, perfect from the beginning!  The CBC has completely refurbished this instrument making it ready for the highest level player.  The bass also has the complete CBC setup that includes neck reset, new fingerboard, endpin and adjustable bridge, fully adjustable chromatic C extension.

This bass and the other English basses we have in stock are definitely worth the trip to Cincy from anywhere in the world.
