John Betts c.1790 (London)

A major league 4/4 size orchestra bass! An incredible opportunity to own a top tier c. 1790 English instrument.  I worry about structural damage to our showroom when playing this bass…   Incredible power, clarity and cushion, a dream to play.  An absolutely beautiful example of the best England had to offer in the late 18th century.  Betts had the best workers around including Fendt and Panormo.

The wood selection is spruce and tightly flamed Sycamore.  The varnish is a gorgeous reddish brown over amber aged to amazing hues.  Original scroll and tuners.  The label is original, No.2 North Piazza, Royal Exchange, London. Fitted with a full chromatic extension. The instrument is in a very good state of preservation and is ready to insert in any major orchestra worldwide.
